The peacock bird has to be one of the most beautiful birds in the world and it is an inspriration to all designers around the world. I am finding more and more peacocks and peacock feathers on clothes, dresses,tutus, and hair pieces. The colors of a peacock feather are so rich, vibrant and luscious. I, myself, has been completely awed and inspired by the feathers of a peacock. I used the beautiful and rich colors of teal,green,and navy in my tutu dress and then adorned it with a peacock feathered piece.

The History of the Candy Cane

			One of the most often seen symbols of Christmas is the candy cane. Not only are candy canes used as a sweet Christmastime treat but they are also used for decoration. How did this seasonal candy get its familiar shape, and when did it become part of Christmas tradition? When the practice of using Christmas trees to celebrate Christmas became popular in Europe the people there began making decorations for their trees. Many of the decorations were food items including cookies and candy. The predecesor of our modern candy cane appeared at about this time in the seventeenth century. These were straight, white sticks of sugar candy. Part of the Christmas celebration at the Cologne Cathedral were pagents of living creches. In about 1670 the choirmaster there had sticks of candy bent into the shape of a shepherd’s crook and passed them out to children who attended the ceremonies. This became a popular tradition, and eventually the practice of passing out the sugar canes at living creche ceremonies spread throughout Europe. The use of candy canes on Christmas trees made its way to America by the 1800’s, however during this time they were still pure white. They are represented this way on Christmas cards made before 1900, and it is not until the early 20th century that they appear with their familiar red stripes. Many people have given religious meaning to the shape and form of the candy cane. It is said that its shape is like the letter “J” in Jesus’ name. It is also in the shape of the shepherds’ crook, symbolic of how Jesus, like the “Good Shepherd” watches over his children like little lambs. It is a hard candy, solid like a “rock”, the foundation of the Church. The flavor of peppermint is similar to another member of the mint family, hyssop. In the Old Testament hyssop was used for purification and sacrifice, and this is said to symbolize the purity of Jesus and the sacrifice he made. Some say the white of the candy cane represents the purity of Jesus and his virgin birth. The bold red stripe represents God’s love. The three fine stripes are said by some to represent the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Others say they represent the blood spilled at the beating Jesus received at the hands of the Roman soldiers. From its plain early beginnings to its familiar shape and color of today, the candy cane is a symbol of Christmas and a reminder of the meaning of the holiday.

It was a gloomy and rainy day at Abby's TuTu Factory and I was working away trying to get all my projects done for the week. The kids were in the other room playing away and starting to get a little rowdy. Needless to say they were driving me nuts being a couped up in the house. So I decided to put them to work so I can get my work done. I brought Luke and Abby into my sewing room, gave them a huge box of scraps of fabric, tulle and ribbon, and sat them down in front of my mannequins. Before I knew it they were working away pinning fabric pieces on the mannequins. They did this for hours trying figure out what fabric should go where and pinning layer after layer. You could see the tiny spinning wheels spinning away through their little eyes. I was in awe at how quiet and tediously they worked. So what does a mother do to document a moment in history that may never happen again in her lifetime. Yep I brought out the camera! I may never see my two children getting along so well and working so hard at something ever again. Plus I knew I could use the photos later on in life to embarass my son and show them to all his girlfriends. OHHH I am such an awful mommy. So now I am sharing this history making moment with you and hoping you get a kick out of my photos, just like I did. I just love creative play, it is such a wonderful thing to introduce into your child's life. Here are Luke and Abby with their wonderful creative designs LOL.

Trick or Treating

I love this time of year. The leaves are falling, the weather is cool, and there are so many pumpkin recipes to eat, I just might turn into a pumpkin myself. I think Halloween has to be the best and most fun holiday ever. I love all the spooky decorating in the house and making a haunted graveyard in the front yard. You get to dress up to be whatever you want and go door to door to recieve a bucket full of candy. There is absolutley no stress involved in this holiday, just the best parties. Even though this year I didnt attend any parties, I enjoyed watching my two children light up everytime a piece of candy dropped into their orange pumpkin buckets. Going from door to door they did not tire once, they just kept truckin on to the next house til their buckets were completely full. The minute we got home and walked through the door, the pumpkins were dumped out on the floor for my two kids to examine what they had recieved from all the houses. It was great to watch their faces as they picked up each individual piece of candy and asked "What is this?" What could be better than a magical day of pretend and a load of candy!

Well today was an interesting day. Abby and I were headed out to the post office to ship out all the orders that I recieved earlier this week but never quite made it. The roads were so muddy and slippery, they ran us right off the road and into a ditch.It was alittle awakening you could say and Abby and I ended up having to crawl through the passenger window to get out of the car. We are just fine but we had to hiked back home in the yucky mud and call my mom to get someone to pull the car out. What a day! Here are some pictures of today's event. All of today's shipment will just have to wait til tomorrow.

A Fun day

Today was a fun day in the park. It was Kawanis Kids Day. I had entered my two kiddos in the costume contests and costume parade. Luke was entered in the Pet and Owner catagory and Abby was entered in the Costume catagory. The many kids and costumes that showed up were just adorable and a lot of fun to see. The pet and owner catagory that Luke was entered was an especially cute catagory. All the kids were dressed in costumes with their pets to match. Luke and I made the decision to make a spider costume that we had seen on the internet. Our little dog, Charlie, was Luke's captured fly. He was just so cute and very cooperative with his homemade bug eyes and little fly wings. They both made a buggy little team. Luke and Abby both recieved 2nd place in their catagories. The pet and owner that beat Luke and Charlie out was this most adorable girl and pony team. They were both dressed as tutu wearing ballerinas. You can just imagine how adorable a little pony would look in a pink tutu.
